This is a close up of a sliding hornblock, an integral part of the compensating mechanism that will enable the finer flanged P4 wheels to remain on the track. Building the chassis compensated or sprung ensures that all wheels remain in contact with the track at all times; this also improves electrical pick-up and therefore the running, and can be a great benefit whatever the gauge or scale.
