This medium box van, on a Bedford chassis, would have been used to transport packages between customers and the nearest goods yard for transhipment by rail. Delays, breakages and losses coupled with fierce competion from private hauliers who could handle the transport much more efficiently led to a steady decline in the movement of goods by rail.
